The Web Intelligence Network (WIN) project is building a platform to make non-traditional data sources accessible to members of the European Statistical System (ESS). The Web Intelligence Hub (WIH) is a key part of this project, offering a secure space for National Statistical Institutes (NSIs) to explore new data sets and work together on statistical production.

This webinar, designed for statisticians, data analysts, and researchers, will explore ways to enhance the quality and reliability of web-scraped data. It will cover methodological aspects, as well as quality assurance practices during data transformation and statistical output generation. The aim is to provide participants with the knowledge and tools needed to effectively use web-scraped data in official statistics.

The Web Intelligence Network (WIN) invites you to participate in the coming Web Intelligence Network Conference. “From Web to Data", 4 – 5 February 2025, Gdansk, Poland, and to send the abstracts in the area of developing or working with web data sources, targeting, but not limited to, the following topics:

  • Augmenting official statistics with web data,
  • Generating new statistical insights from web data,
  • Methodological developments related to web data,
  • Methods to estimate the quality of web-based statistics, including quality frameworks and indicators,
  • Application of machine learning to web data,
  • Open-source solutions for gathering, processing or analysing web data,
  • Experiences in the transition from traditional to web data sources in the statistical production

The statistical and data science community presentations will be combined with keynotes from international experts and presentations of work completed within the WIN project. These developments are at the forefront of embracing new data sources, a frontier with immense potential for official statistics. We are excited to share the progress made within this area at the conference, which will showcase the current and future use of web data sources and their possible applications. The abstract should be submitted to 16 December 2024.
