Blog from April, 2020

On April 23, 2020, over 70 participants virtually gathered to kick-off the Asia and the Pacific Data Integration Community of Practice.  In this meeting, Ms. Gemma Van Halderen, Director of UNESCAP Statistics Division, welcomed everyone and described how this community of practice can contribute to advancing towards the collective vision and framework for action by the Asia-Pacific statistical community. The Asia and the Pacific Data Integration Community of Practice offers a private space to member experts to share knowledge and experience around data integration, as well as contribute to developing regional guidelines on data integration based on those produced under auspices of the Conference of European Statisticians.  Ms. Afsaneh Yazdani and Ms. Jessica Gardner briefly introduced Asia and the Pacific Data Integration Community of Practice and demo’ed the platform.

Slides presented at the meeting, and instruction video are now available to the members, on Resources and How to use Confluence pages, respectively.

The UNECE High-Level Group for the Modernization of Official Statistics produces important standards for official statistics. This has included developing a Guide to Data Integration that will be used as a starting point to develop guidelines for the Asia-Pacific region. Rather than starting from scratch, this region will review and adapt those guidelines to suit.

Visit the draft guidelines and add your contribution by:

  1. Editing the page - click the edit icon and make changes to the page. This is a collaborative process and all contributions from this group of experts are welcome. Edits are tracked and previous versions can be accessed and reinstated so no work will be lost.
  2. Commenting - add a comment to any page with your thoughts, questions, ideas. Your inputs are needed!
  3. Sharing resources - add PDFs, documents, presentations - any resources, including your country's experiences, that are related to data integration.

We are looking forward to your active contributions and to building on the fantastic work of the UNECE group to fast track a guide on data integration for Asia and the Pacific.
